Workshop description
For the first time, the ESGAR Masterclass in Small Bowel Imaging: Hands-on MR & Ultrasound will feature an IBUSXP – Masterclass and certification for the experienced IUS performer. This workshop is organized in collaboration between the International Bowel Ultrasound Group e.V. and the European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR), under the medical lead of Dr. Isabelle De Kock.
The primary aim of the IBUSXP is to establish standardized, high-quality techniques for performing IUS examination among physicians with a minimum of 300 performed procedures over the last 3 years.
The workshop consists of 2 parts:
- Theoretical and didactic training: participants will engage in an interactive, self-directed eLearning course via IBUS
- Practical training: the hands-on experience component will be facilitated through an introductory face-to-face course involving sessions with patients
Upon completion of the workshop, participants will undergo theoretical and practical exams. Those who successfully pass the course will receive an IBUS Level 1 Certificate (no further Module 2 or 3 required).
Application process
The application process is divided into the following 3 steps:
1. Registration: Interested applicants must first officially register for the ESGAR Masterclass in Small Bowel Imaging: Hands-on MR & Ultrasound via the ESGAR website(opens in new tab).
2. Submission of application: After the registration process, they need to send their IBUSXP workshop application(opens in new tab). Fully completed applications must be submitted by Thursday, November 19th, 2026. Applicants must submit their CV, and Letter of Recommendation from their Head of Department or Letter of Motivation, and confirm their commitment to completing the mandatory eLearning component of the IBUSXP Workshop before attending the hands-on part (more information on the content and cost can be found here(opens in new tab).)
3. Review and selection: Applications will be reviewed and participants selected by late November 2026.
4. Workshop registration: The selected applicants will receive an invoice for the eLearning course fee (250 €) from IBUS. Registration to the workshop will be confirmed upon receipt of payment.

ESGAR Member and/or IBUS Member: 950,00 €
Non-Member: 1,250.00 €
ESGAR Member in training: 550.00 €
Non-Member in training: 750.00 €
IBUSXP eLearning Introduction course for selected participants:
250,00 € + 19% VAT
The workshop fee includes participation in the lectures and hands-on practical sessions as per the program. Travel and accommodation are not included.

Eligibility Criteria and Selection
Applicants must:
- be registered for the ESGAR Masterclass in Small Bowel Imaging: Hands-on MR & Ultrasound
- have access to an ultrasound machine
- have performed at least 300 IUS procedures within the last 3 years

Applications with equal qualifications will be evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis. Only fully completed applications will be taken into consideration.
