Workshop description
The 8th IBUS Hybrid Module 1 Workshop will take place on September 5th, 2025 in Zaventem, Belgium.
This IBUS workshop has been developed by a group of international experts in IBD and intestinal ultrasound (IUS). Participants will learn about the basics of intestinal ultrasound (IUS) and the role of IUS in diagnosis, follow-up of treatment, and complications in IBD.
The workshop consists in 2 parts:
- Theoretical and didactic training: participants will engage in an interactive, self-directed eLearning course via IBUS
- Practical training: the hands-on experience component will be facilitated through an introductory face-to-face course involving sessions with patients
The workshop will be organized in collaboration with BIRD (Belgian Inflammatory Bowel Disease Research and Development) under the medical lead of Dr. Bram Verstockt - UZ Leuven.
Application Process
The application process is divided into the following 3 steps:
- Submission of application: To be taken into consideration for the application process, fully completed applications must be submitted by May 29th, 2025. Applicants must submit together with their CV a Letter of Recommendation from their Head of Department.
During the application process applicants will be prompted to confirm their commitment to completing the eLearning component of Module 1 before attending the face-to-face workshop (please note this is a mandatory prerequisite to attend the workshop - more information on the content can be found here.) - Review and selection: The Workshop Steering Committee will review all applications and select the potential workshop participants by mid-June 2025.
- Workshop registration: the selected applicants will receive a notification by the IBUS Office asking to re-confirm their commitment to attend this workshop.

The Workshop is free for BIRD members working in Belgium. BIRD will cover the IBUS eLearning course fee (250 € + 19% VAT). In case of a late cancellation, the participants will be charged with the regular Workshop fees.
The costs for other applicants will be the IBUS eLearning course fee of 250 € + BIRD on-site fee of 600 € (excl. VAT)
Please note that travel and accommodation arrangements must be covered by the participant directly.
This IBUS Hybrid Module 1 Workshop is intended for IBD-treating physicians working in Belgium. Please also note that priority will be given to the BIRD members in the selection.
Half of the following four-week Module 2 Training must be completed in an IBUS Certified Training Centre in Belgium, which will be coordinated via the IBUS office.
Applications with equal qualifications will be evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis. Only fully completed applications will be taken into consideration.
It is a mandatory requirement to have access to an ultrasound machine in order to apply for this workshop.
