IBUS Curriculum – An accredited training program in IBUS
A core aspect of this training programme is to teach standardization of technique and examination whilst performing GIUS. For this reason, an international ultrasound curriculum has been established, consisting of three educational parts:
- IBUS Hands-on Workshop Module 1 “Introduction of Bowel Ultrasonography” (3 days)
- Hands-on training (documentation of a minimum of 40 independently-performed real-life cases within 4 weeks), through an expert IBUS-center.
- IBUS Module 3 / ECCO-ESGAR Advanced Workshop (1 day incl. final exam)
The IBUS Curriculum is a complete program, developed to teach bowel ultrasound and how to use in IBD patients, which is to be executed in a row, following the modules order and within 2 years for immediate daily practice. In 2020, IBUS will offer three Workshops Module 1, in Lisbon from 24 to 26 April, in Melbourne from 23 to 25 May and finally Amsterdam from 22 to 24 November. Interested? You can apply online and/or contact the IBUS Office for detailed information.
Module 1: Introduction of Bowel Ultrasonography - Workshop incl. Theory and Hands-on Practice
To attend to the IBUS Module 1, IBUS members can fill out the application process online for a later selection by an experts’ committee. Selected participants receive a confirmation and attend to expert presentations on bowel ultrasound for theoretical knowledge and numerous hands-on sessions in small groups on real patients for practice, during this 3-day workshop exclusively created by the IBUS Group members. Objectives are to learn the basics of ultrasound application in IBD and retain a copy of a bowel ultrasonography teaching compendium. Ask Lisa Meyer for more information: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Module 2: Four weeks Hands-on training - Learn with expert supervision
The IBUS Module 2 is a four-week hands-on training at a certified IBUS centre and aims to deepen knowledge and practical abilities in bowel ultrasonography gained in Module 1. The independently performed cases are to be documented in an IBUS-made logbook for later certification. Module 1 prior to Module 1 in mandatory.
Module 3: ECCO-ESGAR Advanced IUS Workshop
Organisation: ECCO EduCom in collaboration with ESGAR.
Target audience: Physicians, Radiologists, Surgeons, Paediatricians
Online Registration: Directly at the ECCO Office, on first-come first-served basis. A prior ECCO membership is mandatory.
CME accreditation: 3 CME Credits; prerequisite: completion of the online evaluation form.
History of IBUS Educational Contents
The first workshop took place in Lueneburg/Germany in November 2016, followed by a hands-on-training for four weeks; the final part of graduation was completion of an examination during the ECCO congress in February 2017. This curriculum was successfully adopted, therefore the next workshop was organized in Milan/Italy in May 2017; subsequent workshops are scheduled for April 2018 in Calgary/Canada and November 2018 in Melbourne/Australia. In 2019, you were invited in Israel & Denmark.
By participating in Module 2 - 3 and fulfilling the criteria for the courses, you will become awarded with a certification on basic intestinal ultrasonography skills.
