Dear IBUS Members
2020 has been a challenge for everyone around the world and therefore also for us as IBUS group. Initially we had planned a Hands-On workshop in Portugal in spring as well as in Australia during fall 2020. Due to travel restrictions we finally decided to move the Part 1 from Live Hands-On to Live Virtual and this way we met under the lead of Carolina Palmela and Joan Torres with more than 40 colleagues from around the world online beginning of December for a very exciting introduction into intestinal ultrasound for IBD with lots of interactivity in breakout rooms.
The Part 2 of the educational program with Hands-On training in various IBUS training centers unfortunately is still on hold due to the COVID pandemic but we're very much hoping to resume training during the second half of 2021. Luckily, we have been able to meet many of you during our membership meeting during ECCO 2020, actually being one of the last large meetings since then.
Fortunate to the virtual options we have been able to continue with Webinars and the different committees were able to meet on frequent basis moving projects forward. For example we received more than 20 wonderful applications for the IBUS/ECCO research grant and decided to add another two €10,000 grants for the 2nd and 3rd-best application. Besides several projects some of them already leading to publications in various journals such as JCC the IBUS Group under the lead of Kerri Novak from Canada and Britt Christensen from Australia successfully received a 3.5 Mio $ research grant from the Helmsley foundation in New York to develop a validated Crohn's disease intestinal ultrasound activity score and the first 2 parts of this large 3 year grant have already been started.
As much as we are looking forward to meeting you again in person, we have decided to have this year's membership meeting as a virtualmeeting and the exact date will soon be posted on the homepage and sent to you via newsletter. We very much hope that we will find a date that will suit you and will allow you to join us even though it is only going to be virtual. For those who are interested in starting with the next Part I IBUS Training Curriculum we are planning the next Hands-On workshop at the AMC in Amsterdam in September 2021.
Now I wish you fun in reading our first IBUS newsletter giving you much more detailed information on some of the above-mentioned projects. Feel free to contact anyone of our group and we will also be more than happy if you join any of our initiatives or committees in the near future.
